I was NOT expecting this to be a Musical (you barely get to be familiar with the characters and setting animation when its one song after another)and I was about halfway through the movie and mentally writing a scathing review for IMDb, when the Storyline grabbed me in and swept me through until the predictable end. Remember this is an Adaptation of Shakespeare"s "A MidSummer Night's Dream". All about Misunderstandings and Cross Purposes between different Races. I disagree with the IMDb Trivia Note about it also crossing the Shakespeare with Labyrinth. The Female Protagonist did not have "help" from the Antagonist's Minion. I might cross the storyline with a bit of "Love Potion #9" as the hilarious accidental Love Matches are very similar. Full of 60s, 70s, 80s and more recent Songs, the film sometimes gets Schmaltzy, but with a twist that redeems the picture. Definitely a DATE Movie when you don't want to watch one of those Girly Romance Movies. The ILM Animation is fantastic, bordering on the detail everyone loved in "Avatar", especially in close up. I don't know if the same Facial Motion Capture was used, but the main characters have very lifelike expressions and emotions.

What went through Lucas' mind when he concocted the script for this film? I expected so much more originality from him than what was delivered. This film so desperately wants to be an old school Disney movie. I hated hearing all the radio pop songs redone, it would have been a bit less torturous if the soundtrack was more original. The main characters in this "film" look grotesque, I mean a real eyesore! I could not stand all the singing. It was overkill. I needed some more dialogue in-between but they didn't give the viewers enough room to breathe, it was an onslaught of melodic torture that seemed endless. You cannot create something this bad by mistake. It must be carried out with great precision and intent. Avoid this abomination at all costs!
I saw this movie with my daughters and my husband. We watch movies every week as family outings. My whole family loved this movie. My daughters ages 6, 7 and 8 also love all musicals so that probably helped. My husband laughed throughout and my kids thought a lot of the scenes were very funny. There were some scary parts that I probably would shut my kid's eyes for if they were 5 and younger. My kids were singing all the tunes in the car on the way home and begged to watch the movie again the next day as we went to the movies again. It's a little bit of a love story with a twist that my kids definitely thought was different.
